You are talking, everyone else is pointing at their ears. The fix is usually one setting, but which one? It might be in Zoom, it might be in your computer’s sound settings, it might be a privacy switch. Dusty can check them for you while you get back to the meeting.
The usual suspects
When nobody can hear you, it is almost always one of these:
- The wrong microphone is selected. Zoom picked the webcam’s mic, or a headset you unplugged last week.
- The computer blocks the microphone. Windows and macOS both have a privacy setting that decides which apps may use the mic, and Zoom can be switched off there.
- You are muted somewhere else. In Zoom, on the headset, or in the system’s own input volume.
- Another app is holding the mic. A second call app open in the background can keep it busy.
Checking all of that means jumping between Zoom’s audio settings and two or three system screens, each named differently on Windows and on a Mac.
